In 1927 Nungesser teamed up with the one eyed Coli, a veteran of the Great War and a pioneer in long distance flying, to attempt to cross the Atlantic. Nungesser was a legendary Great War pilot who scored 43 air victories while chasing women and boozing. In their aircraft the “White Bird” they left France heading for New York. They never made it. Two weeks after they disappeared Lindbergh successfully crossed the Atlantic.

Shut up and take my moneyFor over 13 years, architect Mickey Muennig (and girlfriend and children) lived in the tiny Greenhouse—his 1976 take on the then-popular dome and his celestial artistic response. From the deck of the outdoor bath, you can see up the coast.
Inside the one-room house, the reclaimed-redwood platform bed hangs on slender steel rods fastened to the ceiling. The ceiling cap is a vent—the house’s thermostat.
